In recognizing a few of our participants in the hub talking about the Olympic Games. We decided to put the Olympic Games up on the tv so everyone could see what they were talking about.
They excitedly shared some ohs and ahs, as they watched some athletes compete.
With the excitement around the room and it being Don’t Dis My Ability Day next week we decided to make a Mini Olympic Games Day for everyone for the following week. The staff all got busy organizing activities to do for our big day.
Friday 3rd of DECEMBER Our 24/7 Mini Olympics
Throughout the morning the staff gave the participants opportunities to participate in several Olympic themed arts and crafts. Some designed their own Olympic ring design or used their hands to replicate the rings. We even made our very own 24/7 Olympic torch.
Outside we had a complete race track with a start and finish line and some Olympic decorations displayed that we all helped create over the past week.
Our Mini Olympics day included a range of fun all-inclusive physical activities and games with our support staff cheering all our participants on.
We had Egg and spoon race a Hoola hoop challenge running and walking races and a group Bean bag toss game.
Throughout this day we brought the participants together to celebrate National Don’t Dis My Ability Day together with the history of the Olympics and its unique spirit. It showed a magic sense of unity as participants with a range of different disabilities come together to celebrate their own strengths and talents.
We finished the afternoon with a ending ceremony. Everyone marching with their fellow peers inside to have some delicious fruit salad.
